Various goodness…
Good morning blogosphere - as I type to you I’m sitting in my studio, waiting for business hours so I can go down to the bank before bedtime. These reversed sleep cycles are cool from time to time, but getting stuff done can be a challenge!
It’s been an interesting week for me in many ways - I had an doctor’s appointment on Tuesday for my one-month medication review for my depression. Good gracious, has it been that long already? The late nights and early mornings do seem to make you drift through life a bit - sleep deprivation I guess. Anyway, the upshot of this is that my meds have been upped by 50% and I’ve been signed off work for three weeks, to give me time to get my head sorted. I’m hoping I’ll be ready to go back to work (maybe even to a new job) by the end of this period, but the road to recovery’s a long one and I have to accept that I may not be able to cope with pressurised environments for a while yet.
I’ve spent most of my evenings chilling out with Tom from Fractal Injection, discussing the band’s plans for their next foray into their cross-genre fusion of dance styles. It’s all very much under wraps for the moment, but suffice it to say it’s going to be a belter! I’m hoping for a guest slot on ‘cello, so I’ll let you know if that develops.
After that was a spurt of creativity - I’ve written the lyrics for three songs, recorded demos of another two (a prog metal epic and an acoustic answer to ‘Hello’, which will both find their way onto my myspace in good time - the address is www.myspace.com/adsimpson ).
So here I am on Thursday evening, having signed up with a gym, picked up and added a few more touches to the aforementioned demos.
I’ve just finished listening to Wobbly Bob’s live set for Two Valleys Radio; there’s been a surprising lineup change in Mikey joining the band - a very good choice in my opinion. I’ve felt for a long time that Wobbly Bob, even though fairly tight as a band, were lacking in the sound department since Lucy (their previous trumpeter) left the band, so it’s good to see them taking action to rectify this.
The new bassist seems to be working out well for the band as well, which is a relief on my part. Still, when lineup changes were mentioned I was surprised when Peter didn’t go into any details surrounding my leaving the band, or indeed mention me at all. I wouldn’t go so far as to say I was offended - it just struck me as unusual at first. On consideration, it seems pretty clear that the band is focussed on the future, and that can only ever be a good thing for the band as a unit. They’ve a long way to go in their live playing before they’ll rival the big players in the ska punk scene, but it is just a matter of time before they get there. I have to admit that I always anticipated I would be part of that progression, and it does sadden me that now won’t happen, but even so I wish the guys all the best, and I intend to forge closer ties between my own band and them.
Christ, I’m already writing an essay and I’ve barely got through any of what I wanted to talk about. This is the problem with isolation - when you can finally muster up the energy to tell your friends how you’re getting on, you have about a million thoughts in your head and compulsively have to go every one in infinite detail. I’ll try and speed things up a little =)
So Cinders and I had a fairly big disagreement again, and we’re on a month-long trial period to try and make the relationship work. It’s going fairly well so far, but as with so many things in life, money (or rather a lack of it) is at the root of things. I don’t want to go into details, but suffice it to say that the brown and smelly hit the fan. Here’s hoping we can clean it all off the wall in time, because I’m just not strong enough to go around the whole cycle again.
In other happyfuntime news, I’ve finally got around to applying for student finance for my PGCE next year, so I’m one big step closer to being sorted and ready for it. Just got to wait for a request for an up-to-date CRB check (still clean, thank you very much!), then I’m definitely going to uni next year. You know, actually having a little money to cover such trifling things as rent and food. I’m really looking forward to the challenge and I’ve already started planning lessons in advance. Huddersfield Tech, beware - there will be a seminar on Melodyne!
Anyway, it’s knocking on a bit now, and I want to get a cup of tea before I head off to town, so I shall sign off now. See you on the laters, blogosphere!
