Post-election ramblings
So first of all, I don’t want to talk about the election result itself - what’s happened has happened and there’s no point anyone getting upset at it. However, the atmosphere surrounding it has been electrifying, and one thing I think people value more than ever now is freedom of speech. In that spirit, I have a few diatribes (Hopefully with a point to them!) for those still resisting the future of the British People.
1. Piracy
To those who say that piracy will kill the music industry, I ask you this one simple question - to the true fan who pays all their spare money to see their favourite band, which is more valuable? The album they can buy in any store or the bootlegged unmixed studio version they scoured the planet for until they found the source of the leak? And which do you think will turn up in the Antiques Roadshow in 2110? Mass-produced shit on a piece of shiny plastic or the original pre-production track, hand-remastered and passed down the generations, often suffering irreparable corruption in the transfer process?
And how much do you think this avid fan pays their favourite band every year to see them? And, having heard the pre-production demo, on the final album every time?
2. Politics
OK, so here’s the first doozy. I’ll probably take a bit of flak for saying this, but universally speaking does it actually matter who holds the majority in Parliament? The British Public will trundle on as they always do, paying taxes like they always do, and putting up with a consistent rise in cost of living like they always do.
3. Weed
You all knew this one was going to come up. So why the actual fuck is this plant still illegal? Its psychological and medical benefits far outweigh the death rate, and god dammit, it’s a plant. Just another reason we’re waiting for the old and ignorant to die and the followers of the old an ignorant to get lost and marginalised.
There will be more, but it’s late and I have some Jack Daniels to drink.
